Write about Democracy and win a £1,000

The Electoral Reform Society has launched its annual essay competition under the title:

“THINK YOU KNOW ABOUT DEMOCRACY?”

This spring the Electoral Reform Society are looking for a 3000 word essay on one of the following topics. Not only will they be publishing the winning
entries, but they have a top prize of £1,000 to be won! To enter, you have to be a student in full time education.

Essay Titles

• Community Participation - Know thy neighbour? – Does it still make sense to talk about geographically defined political communities?
• Theory of Democracy - Is democracy essentially about the majority or the minority?
• Hot Topic 2009 - Elections in the public sector: are elected police chiefs and healthcare officials the way forward?
• Diversity & Equality - People like me: is an increase in diversity and equality in politics the best way to re-engage the public?
